Diese Eiche wächst auf sandigen Böden und erreicht eine Höhe von 75 Fuß mit einer Ausbreitung von etwa 45 Fuß. Das wichtigste ornamentale Merkmal ist die scharlachrote Herbstblattfarbe, für die es benannt ist. Angeblich weniger Chlorose als Nadelholz, sollte aber auf sauren Böden angebaut werden.
