Mistel ist eine parasitäre Pflanze auf Bäumen und Sträuchern im Südwesten der Vereinigten Staaten. Die Pflanze bezieht ihre gesamte Nahrung (Nahrung und Wasser) von den Bäumen und Sträuchern, auf denen die Rebe wächst. Pflanzen sterben während Illinois Winters aus.

Pflanzen blühen im Sommer und produzieren eine weiße GIFTIGE Beere während der Wintermonate... deshalb wird die Pflanze oft während der Ferien für Dekorationen verwendet. Die meisten Firmen werden die Mistel mit künstlichen Beeren vermarkten, um mögliche Klagen zu vermeiden.

Historisch wurde angenommen, dass Mistel Fruchtbarkeit verursacht. Schwedische Herbalists benutzten die Pflanze als Giftmittel.

Warum wird Mistel zum Küssen verwendet? Nach nordischen Legenden tötete ein aus Misteln gefertigter Pfeil fast Balder, einige Freyja (Göttin der Liebe und Schönheit). Ihre dankbaren Tränen der Freude verwandelten sich in die Mistelbeeren. Sie versprach, jedem, der unter dem Mistelzweig vorbeikam, einen Kuss zu geben.
