Tuliptree wächst auf 75 oder mehr Fuß und bevorzugt gut durchlässigen, sauren Boden. Das weiche Holz macht den Baum anfällig für Sturmschäden. Tuliptree hat zunächst eine moderate Wachstumsrate, verlangsamt sich aber mit dem Alter. Die duftenden, tulpenartigen, grünlich-gelben Blüten erscheinen im Frühjahr, sind aber nicht so dekorativ wie die anderer blühender Bäume. Tuliptree im Frühjahr anpflanzen und auch dann wird es schwierig. Dürreperioden im Sommer führen zu vorzeitiger Entlaubung, besonders bei kürzlich transplantierten Bäumen. Die Herbstfarbe ist gelb.
