Liatris trägt ungewöhnliche, flaumig aussehende, weiße oder violette Blüten. Die Blüten öffnen sich zuerst an der Spitze des Stachels. Gayfeather wächst 4 bis 5 Fuß groß und wird am besten im hinteren Teil des Blumengartens verwendet. Die Pflanze wächst in jedem Boden, aber die besten Ergebnisse werden in sandigem Boden und in voller Sonne oder Halbschatten erreicht. Schattengewachsene Pflanzen haben krumme Stämme. Wenn nicht genug geteilt, wächst die Krone aus dem Boden. Blütezeit ist von August bis September.

Die Teilung der Wurzelknollen kann im frühen Frühling erfolgen. Der Samen keimt in 3 bis 4 Wochen bei 65 bis 75 Grad.
