Spitzenwanzen - so genannt wegen ihrer breiten, lacelike Vorflügel - sind in der Regel weißlich und 5 bis 6 mm lang. Sie sind flach und oval bis rechteckig, der Kopf ist unter einer dünnen, flachen Kapuze verborgen. Die Nymphen sind schwarz und oft mit Stacheln bedeckt. Viele Arten ernähren sich von den Blattunterseiten. Die Oberseiten der befallenen Blätter verfärben sich zwischen den Blattadern gelb oder braun, während die Unterseiten mit schwarzen, glänzenden Exkrementen und Gußhäuten unreifer Käfer gesprenkelt sind.
