Cockspur Hawthorn ist ein langsam wachsender, flach gekrönter Baum, der eine Höhe und Verbreitung von 20 bis 30 Fuß erreicht. Die stratifizierte Verzweigung, 3 Zoll lange Stacheln und Schertoleranz machen dies zu einer ausgezeichneten Barriere-Pflanze. Die weißen, halben Zoll Blumen sind im Mai oder Juni anwesend. Die roten Früchte bleiben im Winter und folgen der orangefarbenen bis roten Herbstfärbung.
Mehrere Sorten sind aufgeführt: inermis - keine Dornen; linearis - Blätter linear-lanzettlich; Nana - Zwerg; Pyracantholifolia - kleine rote Frucht; Salicifolia - Blätter dünn; splendens - Blätter elliptisch, glänzend.
