Catalpa wird 50 Fuß groß, kann aber bis zu 90 Fuß lang werden. Dieser kurzlebige, grob strukturierte Baum verbreitet 50 Fuß und verträgt heißes Wetter. Eine sonnige Aussetzung und ein gut durchlässiger, feuchter, reicher Boden sind bevorzugt. Das Wachstum ist zunächst schnell, verlangsamt sich aber mit dem Alter. Das wichtigste ornamentale Merkmal sind die im Frühsommer entstandenen Blütenrispen. Diese sind weiß mit gelben und violetten Markierungen. Die Frucht ist eine lange Hülse, die ein Abfallproblem sein kann.
